THE WORK OF CHARLIE WHITNEY

For the UrbanDaddy holiday party we were asked to create a digital set to highlight performers, and be an interactive art piece for guests to play with. A surprise last minute venue change led us to scrap the majority of our work and create a brand new piece in a mere ten days.

For the work, we chose to make a wooden art-deco set that would be projected at the end of a large vaulted area. The clock had three separate stages, to coincide with performances that would take place throughout the night. The first was a simple welcome screen that would greet people first coming into the party. After a toast, a large pendulum dropped into sight and it began a long ticking. At this point the back rooms were also opened up, and performers invited guests to enter the individually themed back rooms. Additionally, a motion tracking camera was activated, so that when a person entered a door, a flourish would fly up above the entered door. Finally, a vibrant quick moving finale stage was triggered while dancers rushed out doors to perform a final culminating dance.
